H owever, every cloud has a silver lining. Even though three bad things happened to me one after another, there was a silver lining in the cloud. The expression "every cloud has a silver lining" means every difficult situation leads to better days even though you cannot see this hope at first. If you are fired from your job and cannot support your family but find a better job one month later, you can say every cloud has a silver lining. Two months after ATV stopped my shows, TVB offered me a new English language show called Straight Talk, or 清心直說 in Chinese. This means there was a silver lining in the cloud for me.
My friend Heung Shu-fai, a well-known newspaper columnist and radio host, told me it was a blessing in disguise for ATV to stop my shows. The expression "blessing in disguise" means bad luck that later turns into something good. If your boss forces you to resign because he does not like you but you find a new job with twice the salary, then it was a blessing in disguise that your boss forced you to resign. 然而，黑暗中總有一絲光明（every cloud has a silver lining）。即使壞事接二連三地發生在我身上，事情仍然有曙光（silver lining in the cloud）。習語every cloud has a silver lining意指每一個艱難的處境，最終仍會否極泰來，即使你最初未能抱着這樣的希望。若你被炒，不能養家，但一個月後找到一份更好的工作，你就可以說every cloud has a silver lining。亞視中止我的節目兩個月後，無綫給我一個全新的英語節目Straight Talk，中文名為《清心直說》。對於我這實在是黑暗中的曙光（silver lining in the cloud）。
