A few passengers standing near me had wanted to get off the train at Sheung Shui station but the surging crowd made it impossible for them to get out. I was so angry I yelled (shouted loudly) in Cantonese at the people shoving their way into the train to let passengers exit first, but they ignored me and continued pushing their way into the train. Passengers who had wanted to exit were unable to do so and had to go to Lo Wu. Many of the passengers who shoved their way into the train were mainlanders but some were Hong Kong people. I was appalled at their uncivilized behavior.
The word "stupefied" used this way means to be greatly shocked and astonished. To surge forward means to move suddenly forward in an uncontrollable way. To shove means to push in a rude and rough way. The word appalled can be used in different ways but when used this way, it means shocked, disgusted, or outraged. I was shocked and disgusted to see such uncivilized behavior. I always see MTR staff at busy stations blowing their whistles and holding up signs to tell people not to board overcrowded trains. But I did not see a single one of them at the Sheung Shui station, which is one of the MTR's busiest stations. If I had been one of the passengers unable to exit last Saturday, I would sue (take legal action against) the MTR.

上星期六，當我乘東鐵前往羅湖時，我目睹一件令我很吃驚（stupefied）的事。但我並沒驚訝（stupefied）太久，很快便轉為氣憤難平。那時約莫下午三時四十五分，若你看到我在上水站所見的，你也會很憤怒。我在九龍塘上車時，車廂已經很滿。當我們到達上水時，車廂更是過份擠逼，甚至令我感到，再有人上車的話將會很危險。但上水站卻滿佈等待上車的人群。當車門打開時，乘客蜂擁（surged）向前，推撞着（shoving）要進入擠逼的車廂。
有幾位站在我附近的乘客想在上水站下車，但蜂擁（surging）的人潮令他們無法走出去。我憤怒得要用廣東話向那些推撞（shoving）而進的人喊叫（yelled），着他們先讓乘客下車，他們卻不理我，繼續推進車廂。那些原本想下車的乘客未能如願，只能一同前往羅湖。許多推撞（shoved）上車的乘客是內地人，但也有些是香港人，我對他們這種不文明的行徑深感震驚（appalled）。
Stupefied在這裏的意思是非常震驚或驚訝。To surge forward就是突然有點失控地向前湧進。To shove就是粗魯地推撞。Appalled這個字也可以有幾種用法，在這裏則解作震驚、反感或憤慨。我見到這類不文明的行徑，感到既震驚又厭惡。我常常見到港鐵職員在繁忙的車站吹哨子和舉起指示牌，勸人別登上擠迫的車廂。但在上水站，這個港鐵最繁忙的車站之一，卻一個職員也看不見。若我是上周六未能下車的乘客之一，我定必控告（sue）港鐵。 mickchug@gmail.com
