H istory has many cases of white terror. The first case of white terror took place in France around 1794-1795 when political gangs murdered hundreds of people. White terror occurred in Russia during the 1917-1923 civil war. Thousands of people were killed and jailed. White terror in China occurred in Shanghai in 1927 when Chiang Kai-shek's Kuomintang violently suppressed communist groups by killing, arresting and executing hundreds of people. To "violently suppress" means to use great force to end or destroy something. There was also white terror in Taiwan, together with martial law, which lasted from 1949 to 1987. About 140,000 Taiwanese were jailed and about 4,000 executed for allegedly opposing the Kuomintang and spying for China.
As you can see from history, white terror involves political killings, executions and unfair arrests. Is that happening in Hong Kong? Of course not. That's why I am surprised that even Occupy Central organizer Chan Kin-man, who is an academic, does not understand the meaning of white terror. He said last week he had been a victim of white terror because he had received a razor blade in the mail. I laughed at that. If there was really white terror, he would have been arrested or executed. Anson Chan Fang On-sang said it was white terror for the media to reveal she had received over $3 million from Apple Daily owner Jimmy Lai Chee-ying. The American public would have laughed if former US president Bill Clinton had said it was white terror for the media to reveal his sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky. That is why I no longer respect Chan Fang On-sang.
香港人明白白色恐怖（white terror）的真正意思嗎？恐怕許多人都不知道。他們都被那些自私自利（self-serving）的政客洗腦了，以為香港真的存在白色恐怖（white terror）。若說你self-serving，即是指你單單為自己謀求福利而不為他人服務。當那些自利（self-serving）的政客被傳媒揭發醜聞時，不過在嘗試愚弄公眾，將事件說成白色恐怖（white terror）。我因此感到，那是我的職責去解釋這個習語的真正意思。
歷史上就有許多白色恐怖（white terror）的例子。第一宗白色恐怖（white terror）發生於約一七九四至九五年間的法國，當時的一些政黨殺了數以百計的人。俄羅斯於一九一七至二三年的內戰時期，同樣發生過白色恐怖（white terror），數以千計的人被殺和被囚。中國的白色恐怖（white terror）發生於一九二七年的上海，當時蔣介石的國民黨暴力鎮壓（violently suppressed）共產黨，殺害、拘捕和處死數百人。To violently suppress即是以武力終止和摧毀某事。台灣也曾於一九四九至八七年間出現白色恐怖（white terror），伴隨着戒嚴令。差不多有十四萬台灣人被囚禁，四千人被處死，因為他們據稱是反國民黨，或是為中共做間諜。
若你從歷史來看，白色恐怖（white terror）涉及的是政治殺害、處死和不公的逮捕。這些現在發生在香港嗎﹖當然不是。因此我很驚訝，甚至連佔領中環的主辦人陳健民，身為學者也不明白白色恐怖（white terror）的真正意思。他上星期說自己也是白色恐怖（white terror）的受害者，因為他收到一封內含剃鬚刀的郵件。我不禁失笑。若是真正的白色恐怖，他早已被逮捕或處死了。陳方安生說，傳媒揭露她收受《蘋果日報》老闆黎智英超過三百萬捐款。若是美國前總統克林頓說，傳媒揭露他與萊溫斯基的性關係是白色恐怖（white terror）的話，美國公眾也會啞然失笑。因此我不再敬重陳方安生了。
