have to hand it to Police Commissioner Andy Tsang Wai-hung. He has a knack for making people laugh. Remember how he made people laugh last year when he talked about the police seeing a “black shadow”? He said the reason a plainclothes (not in uniform) policeman had stopped a TV cameraman from filming the arrest of a protestor was because the policeman saw a “black shadow” and did not know it was a cameraman. The excuse was so comical (amusing, funny) that I cracked up (slang expression for laughing a lot).

W hen you say you “have to hand it to someone”, it means that person deserves praise or admiration. For example, you can say:“I have to hand it to my friend. He is fat, ugly and bald but has many beautiful girlfriends.” When you have a knack for something, it means you are very good at doing something. Legislative Councillor Wong Yuk-man has a knack for scolding senior government officials. Last week, Andy Tsang Wai-hung again used his knack for making people laugh. He said something so comical that I cracked up. He said the police took nearly two years to arrest Melody Chan Yuk-fung for allegedly taking part in an illegal protest because they could not find her.

This excuse is hilarious (very funny). Chan Yuk-fung is not hiding from anyone. She is a trainee lawyer and a former journalist. She covered Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying's visit to Beijing last year and returned on the same plane with him. If you believe the police force, which has over 30,000 people, could not find her for two years then you must also believe there really is a Santa Claus. Chan Yuk-fung was arrested last week in Central while on her way to a meeting of the Occupy Central movement, which was formed to fight for democracy. Tsang Wai-hung denied accusations that the police arrested her to discourage others from joining the movement. He said the police did not even know she had joined Occupy Central. If that is true, then our police force must be dim-witted (very stupid) since it is not a secret that she has joined the movement.

        我真心佩服(have to hand it to)警務處處長曾偉雄。

當你說you “have to hand it to someone”?,即是那人配受稱許或欽佩。 若你have a knack for something,即是說你很擅長做某事。

mickchug@gmail.com
